My story begins when, as a young woman, I planned to have a family. I became pregnant naturally, but at 27 years old, I suffered from severe preeclampsia combined with HELLP syndrome—a serious complication that put both my life and my baby’s life at risk. Sadly, I had to terminate the pregnancy and spent several days in intensive care. Everyone told me I should never try to get pregnant again because it would be too dangerous.
Despite the pain and hopelessness, my desire to become a mom led me to keep searching for solutions. For over ten years, I went through different medical institutions, both public and private, in Mexico and New York, facing highs and lows, disappointments, and frustration. Sometimes I cried and thought about giving up, but I always held onto the hope that something could change.
In November 2010, I arrived at Ingenes and met Dr. Martín Rivera. From the first moment, he listened with empathy, professionalism, and care. He reviewed my entire medical history, analyzed previous procedures, and designed a personalized plan to help me achieve Mariana’s pregnancy. I felt valued, seen, and supported—like never before in my medical journey.
Ingenes provided me with holistic support including nutrition and psychological counseling, which made me feel truly taken care of.
Throughout the process, I experienced intense emotions. There were moments of fear, sadness, and anxiety, especially after facing previous losses. Every test, every injection, and every procedure represented a physical, emotional, and financial effort, but the constant support from the Ingenes team gave me confidence and peace of mind.
When I finally received the news that I was pregnant, the joy was overwhelming. However, the pregnancy also came with challenges: Mariana was born prematurely and had respiratory complications, but thanks to the coordinated work of a team of specialists, she pulled through. Every day with her is a reminder of the miracles we’ve experienced and of the dedication of the doctors who were by our side.
Today, Mariana is 14 years old, in middle school, plays volleyball, and dreams of becoming an actress. Her life is full of activities, love, and learning, and every day is a gift that we, her parents, deeply treasure. For me, as her mother, every stage has been unique and enriching, and I feel blessed to be able to guide her as she grows.
If I could speak to the Maricarmen from 14 years ago, I would tell her to never lose hope, to trust herself and her partner, and to allow herself to live this adventure with courage and love. Motherhood is a journey full of emotions, challenges, and joy, and with the right team, it’s possible to overcome obstacles and achieve the dream of having a child.
Mariana was not only wanted and planned, but she is also the result of years of effort, faith, and trust in Ingenes. Every time I look at her, I remember the journey that brought us here and feel infinite gratitude for every person who walked with us through this wonderful adventure.
